InsightNotes on iPad and iPhone

The same InsightNotes as your practice’s computers: take the intake on an iPad during the interview, and read, edit and export reports on an iPad or iPhone. Your practice’s records are kept on the device, encrypted, and in step with its computers.

Getting started

  1. Accept the invitation

Open the invitation email from TestFlight on the iPad or iPhone you will use, and tap View in TestFlight. Install Apple’s free TestFlight app if it asks, then tap Install beside InsightNotes. New versions arrive through TestFlight.

  2. Get a code from your practice

An administrator, on one of your practice’s computers, opens Settings → Computers, chooses whose iPad or iPhone it is, and clicks Add an iPad or iPhone. The computer shows a code and a square to scan. The code works once, for one device. The computer needs InsightNotes 0.1.0-rc.33 or later.

  3. Join your practice

Open InsightNotes on the device, choose Join your practice, then Scan the code and point the camera at the square, or type the code. The device brings over your practice’s people and records; it can take a minute.

  4. Sign in as yourself

Choose your name and sign in with the password or PIN you use on your practice’s computers. From then on, the app asks for Face ID or the device’s passcode each time you come back to it, where the device has one.

Getting around

Everything is where it is on a computer. On an iPad held sideways the screens look just like the computer’s. Held upright, an evaluation’s tabs sit on one row you slide sideways. On an iPhone, Home, Clients, Evaluations, Reports and Settings run along the bottom. Guides, at the top of the app, has a short tour made for the iPad and iPhone.

The intake

Open an evaluation and tap Intake. With the iPad upright, Sections lists every section, and what you have captured shows below the answers. Your answers save as you go, and reach your practice’s computers within seconds when the iPad is online.

Reports

Tap Report. On an iPad the page shows as it prints; on an iPhone it reflows to fit the screen so it is easy to read. Tap a section to type in it; spelling and grammar are underlined as you type, on the device, as on a computer. Export Word or Export PDF opens the Share sheet, to send the report by Mail, AirDrop it, or save it to Files. On an iPhone these are under More.

Offline

The intake and reports work without the internet. Changes made offline are sent to your practice’s computers when the device is back online. AI drafting, joining and sharing a report need the internet.

Not on iPad and iPhone yet

  • Adding records from files, and dictation.
  • Backups: they are made on your practice’s computers.
  • Page numbers in PDFs made on the device. Word files are the same as from a computer.
  • Managing the practice: an iPad or iPhone is never an administrator.

A lost or replaced device

An administrator opens Practice Computers on a computer and chooses Sign out and wipe beside it. The device erases your practice’s records and keys the next time it is online. Each person can have two devices, and they never use one of your practice’s computer licences.

Sending feedback

Take a screenshot and tap Share Beta Feedback, or open TestFlight and choose Send Beta Feedback. Please keep client names and details out of feedback and screenshots.

Kept safe on the device

Records are stored in an encrypted database, with the key in the device’s own Keychain. The screen goes blank in the app switcher. Read more on the Security page.
